Nemu helps you scan a menu and get translations, pronunciations, photos, and prices in your language. Here's exactly what happens to your information — in plain language. The short version: Nemu has no accounts, shows no ads, and never sells your data.

🔒 Your photo never leaves your phone. Nemu reads the text on your device. Only that text is ever sent — never the picture itself.

The short version

No accounts, no name, no email, no location.
No ads. Nothing is ever sold.
No cross-app tracking, no per-person profiles.

Camera & photos

Nemu asks for camera and photo access only so you can capture or pick a menu. The image is processed on your device to read the text, and the photo is never uploaded. If you save a scan, the photo is stored only on your phone.

How translation works

To give you the best result, Nemu sends the text read from your menu to our service, which returns richer translations, dish descriptions, allergen hints, dish photos, and converted prices. Your photo is never sent — only the text.

If you have no internet connection (travelling without data, for example), Nemu automatically falls back to translating entirely on your device. In that case nothing leaves your phone at all — you'll just see basic dish names without the extra details, and the app tells you it's offline.

Where your menu text goes

The menu text passes through a few trusted services. None receive your photo, and none receive anything that identifies you personally.

Our backend has no user accounts and doesn't build a profile of you. Results may be briefly cached by menu text (not by you) to save cost, and your IP is used only momentarily to prevent abuse. See Anthropic's and Cloudflare's privacy policies for how those providers handle data on our behalf.

Anonymous usage & feedback

Anonymous usage counts. We count aggregate events (like "a scan happened" or "a menu was saved") to see which features help. These are plain tallies — no account and no menu content attached, and can't be tied back to you.
Basic diagnostics. Alongside those counts we include standard technical context — device model (e.g. "iPhone 15"), iOS version, app version, and, if a scan fails, which stage failed. This helps us fix bugs and know which devices to support. It's coarse technical info, not a personal identifier.
Feedback you choose to send. If you use Settings → Send Feedback, we store your message and optional rating so we can improve Nemu. It's anonymous — no account or personal info attached unless you type it yourself.

Saved menus & settings

Saved menus (photo + translation), your notes, and your preferences live only on your phone — never synced to any cloud. Delete any saved menu anytime and it's gone from your phone for good.

What Nemu never does

No ads, ever.
No selling or sharing your data with advertisers.
No uploading of your photos.

Children's privacy

Nemu is a general-audience app and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. We don't require accounts or collect personal data.

If we change how Nemu handles data, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above.
